2014 Sussex County Ag Society Scholarship

Illustration of barn and siloGraduating seniors at all Sussex County high schools are invited to apply for the Sussex County Agricultural Society Memorial Scholarship. This scholarship has been presented for over 25 years to graduates pursuing degrees in many fields related to agriculture. In past years, multiple scholarships have been awarded in amounts of over $500 each. The number of scholarships and amount awarded varies annually, depending on the number of applicants, qualifications and available funds.

The following are the qualifications for this scholarship:

  1.  The student is to major in a field of study that is related to agriculture after high school. This may include horticulture, dairy science, production agriculture, veterinary science, or agricultural mechanics/engineering.
  2. The student must be a resident of Sussex County
  3. The winner(s) will be determined by the Ag Society.
  4. The award will be presented at the recipient’s school awards assembly

2014 Sussex County 4-H Public Presentations

4-H member makes presentationIt’s time to begin preparing for 4-H public presentations!

All Sussex County 4-H members are encouraged to develop a public presentation based on a topic of their choice. This is a great opportunity for members to learn something new, develop a presentation and share it with fellow 4-H members. Learning and developing presentation skills will benefit 4-H members the rest of their lives.

Presentations may be made at the club or county level. Members who plan to participate at the county level may schedule their presentation for one of four Friday nights in March.

To register for county level presentations, please download, complete and return a registration form.

Notes:

  • Registration forms must be returned to the Sussex 4-H Office no later than Friday, February 1. This is a hard deadline with no exceptions.
  • Requests for presentation dates will be scheduled on a first received/first scheduled basis. If you want or need to present on a specific night, get your application in early!
  • Presentations including live animals may only be made at the Frankford Twp School on March 7 or March 14.
  • Some clubs require their members to make a public presentation to be eligible to compete at the fair. Please check with your club’s leader(s).

 

Sussex County 4-H Foundation Scholarships

4-H Scholarships

The Sussex County 4-H Foundation assists youth involved in 4-H, who are qualified high school graduates the opportunity to pursue a level of higher education of their choice.

Eligibility

Applicants must be a former or present Sussex County 4-H club members who has graduated or is graduating from a high school and is an active Sussex County 4-H club member for at least five (5) years, three (3) of which must be while attending high school, and a minimum of three (3) years club work

Application Requirements

Grants will be awarded on the basis of 4-H achievement, 4-H leadership, and scholastic standing in relation to the following requirements. In order to be eligible for a scholarship, the following criteria needs to be met:

  • Must be an active 4-H’er for at least (5) years, three (3) of which must be while in high school, and a minimum of three (3) years club work.
  • Completed application forms must be submitted to the 4-H office no later than April 1. An application form is not considered complete unless a written recommendation from a teacher, academic counselor, or administrator is included in the packet. You must also include a copy of your transcript.

A current head and shoulder picture would be welcome. It will be used for publicity related to the announcement of the scholarships.

If necessary, applicants may be asked to be interviewed.

Students who have completed previous application form(s) may reapply by updating the application form(s) and by rewriting your essay to reflect the continued involvement in 4-H such as, but not limited to, an adviser capacity, leadership role, or collegiate involvement. In addition you must add a current transcript, as well as a new letter or recommendation from an academic counselor, a professor, or an administrator from the institution you are now attending.

Scholarships will only be given to students who are involved in undergraduate studies. If their initial application is rejected they may reapply the following year. Sussex 4-H members may only receive the scholarship one time. (Note: re-applications should indicate the member’s continued participation in 4-H.)

Final Selection

The selection of scholarship recipients will be made by the Scholarship Committee of Sussex County 4-H Foundation, Inc. All incomplete applications with reference to the above requirements will be disqualified.

The deadline for submitting the 4-H Foundation Scholarship Application is April 1st

Deadline: Member Registration 2013-14

Attention Sussex 4-H Leaders:

The deadline for enrolling new members for the 2013-14 project year is 1/1/2014. To be eligible for State 4-H events, compete in 4-H shows at the 2014 New Jersey State Fair/Sussex County Farm and Horse Show, and qualify to receive 10 day fair passes your members must be registered with the 4-H Office.

You may accept new members after 1/1/2014.

They may be eligible to participate in the Fair–but they will only be eligible for day passes. They will not be eligible for premiums.

To Register 4-H Members

4-H member registration forms are available online, NJ 4-H Member Registration Form

This form may be completed on your computer (Adobe fillable form) or printed and completed by hand. Copies are available at the RCE/4-H Office.

The 4-H member registration form must be signed by:

  1. a 4-H leader
  2. the 4-H member
  3. the 4-H member’s parent

incomplete forms will not be accepted

Completed forms may be scanned/emailed, faxed, mailed or delivered to the RCE/4-H Office
